Safety investigation and established facts

The investigation was conducted by the Malian commission, with technical assistance from the BEA. Its 169-page final report was published on April 22, 2016.

The flight took off from Ouagadougou at 01:15 UTC.
The wreckage was located on July 24, 2014, about 80 km southeast of Gossi.
The engine Pt2 pressure sensors were probably obstructed by ice crystals, producing erroneous EPR values and autothrottle thrust limitation.
Speed decreased until the stall. The crew did not apply the actions needed to recover from the stall.
The FDR was usable. The damaged CVR contained no usable data.

The safety investigation is not intended to determine fault or liability. In separate criminal proceedings, the Paris Criminal Court convicted Swiftair of involuntary manslaughter on September 28, 2026.
